The Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) has been named as Africa’s Leading Meetings & Conference destination at the 26th Annual World Travel Awards, hosted in Mauritius.
On hand to receive the accolade was Nana Gecaga, chief executive officer, KICC who commented; “This award goes out to all of us in the meetings industry, who work tirelessly to ensure that we are at the top of our game. The awards truly attest to the fact that Nairobi and KICC offers the best MICE experience in the region.”
Other business centres to be nominated were convention centres in Cairo, Kigali, Marrakech, Sandton (Johannesburg), Cape Town and the previous nine-time winner, Durban.
Established in 2011 under the Tourism Act 2011, KICC is a state corporation whose mandates include promoting itself as a continental destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE). According to the corporation’s website, it is the largest convention centre in Eastern Africa with the Tsavo ballroom being able to host more than four thousand delegates.
In the past few months the centre has hosted a variety of events including the Dance Afrique Competition, MEDestination India and The Blue Triangle Cement - 28th Kenya Homes Expo. Starting tomorrow, KICC will be hosting China Trade Week Kenya 2019 with the BuildExpo Africa 2019 starting in one month.
The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge excellence within all facets of the tourism and travel industry.
