Shapoorji Pallonji, a Mumbai and Dubai-based construction company was awarded the ‘Contractor of the Year’ award at this year’s Qatar Contractors Forum & Awards 2014 in conjunction with the International Quality & Productivity Centre (IQPC).
Representing the judging panel of industry experts, Dr Sarah Prichard, director at BuroHappold Engineering, presented the award to Shapoorji Pallonji international’s MD and CEO, M.D Saini, alongside Shapoorji Pallonji Qatar’s country manager, Rajeev Kaul.
Saini commented: “I’d like to thank IQPC for this award. It means a lot and sets the standard we aim to maintain throughout the region. Having been in Qatar only for five years, it’s a great achievement and the feather in our cap as we enter our 150th anniversary in 2015.”
“We have delivered three major projects in Qatar, and we look forward to continuing to support the vision of His Highness and working on more complex projects in the future.”
When asked about what aspects swayed the panel, Dr Prichard noted, “We were really impressed with the involvement of Shapoorji Pallonji not only in contracting but also in delivering value to its clients, while conscientiously looking after its staff and labourers.”
With ongoing projects across the MENA region and Sub-Saharan Africa, Shapoorji Pallonji was also a shortlisted bidder for the construction of two of Qatar’s FIFA World Cup 2022 stadiums, namely the 32,000-seat Al-Bayt stadium and the 45,000 –seat Al-Wakrah stadium.
Shapoorji Pallonji commands a turnover in excess of $5bn, employing 230,000 staff across 25 countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, Algeria, Ghana and Nigeria.
