Moroccan startup GoSwap plans to scale its Casablanca footprint, widen vehicle compatibility, and support broader electric mobility deployment.
GoSwap Secures Funding to Scale Electric Mobility in Morocco
Moroccan startup GoSwap has secured seed funding from the Azur Innovation Fund to accelerate the deployment of its electric mobility solution in the country. The company focuses on automated battery swapping solutions for electric scooters and motorcycles, with the investment aimed at expanding its network and supporting wider adoption.
Battery Swapping Model Targets Urban Use
Founded by Hamza Slimani, GoSwap operates an automated battery swapping system that allows users to exchange a discharged battery for a fully charged one in less than 10 seconds. The company’s model separates the battery from the vehicle and is designed to make electric two-wheel mobility more practical for daily urban use.
The startup has already deployed 20 connected swap stations across Casablanca. These are positioned at high-traffic locations, including CashPlus stores, as well as Petrom and Shell stations. According to reports, the network gives users access to energy at a cost of about MAD 25 to 29.4 per 100 kilometres.
Funding to Support Expansion and Compatibility
The new funding will be used to accelerate the rollout of battery swap points in Casablanca and support expansion into other cities including Marrakech, while also broadening the reach of its infrastructure beyond its current base. The investment is also expected to help GoSwap integrate new models of electric motorcycles compatible with its system and strengthen fleet management tools.
Slimani described the investment as a significant milestone for the business. “The entry of the Azur Innovation Fund is a key moment for GoSwap. Our ambition is to make electric mobility accessible to all by reducing the cost of acquiring and using electric motorcycles while increasing their range. As traffic and transportation costs have become major issues, offering an economical and reliable solution is becoming essential to contribute to cleaner cities,” he said.
Investor Focus on Scalable Mobility Infrastructure
Azur Innovation Management said the company’s proposition stood out because it goes beyond a single vehicle offering. Adnane Filali, managing partner at Azur Innovation Management, said: “GoSwap provides a particularly relevant answer, because it is not limited to one vehicle, it offers a complete battery swapping service, capable of supporting both urban mobility and new uses related to digital commerce and delivery. It is this ability to meet economic, operational and environmental needs that we have chosen to support.”
The company is targeting a broader fundraising round of more than $2 million to support regional growth and expand its infrastructure across North Africa with dates yet to be announced.
Outlook for the Network
With 20 swap stations already active in Casablanca and plans to extend its footprint, GoSwap is positioning its battery-swapping model for further growth in Morocco’s urban mobility market. The funding marks the startup’s first investment round and is expected to support the next phase of its network deployment.
