Clara has launched tool helps tech company founders to digitally form, manage, and scale their startups with a clear, concise table cap.

Clara, a platform that provides a range of tools to founders, has launched a free cap table calculator for startups, empowering tech company founders to digitally form, manage, and scale their startups. The calculator automatically generates a clear and concise cap table, which outlines a company’s ownership structure, including the percentage of ownership held by each shareholder and the type of securities they hold.

    What is a cap table?

A cap (short for capitalization) table is a document that tracks a company’s ownership structure, including the details of initial investments, funding rounds, and equity grants. It plays an essential role in determining the value of a company, raising capital, and making strategic decisions.

Calculating the cap table made easy

To use Clara’s cap table calculator, simply enter the estimated funding amount, pre-money valuation, and desired post-raise percentage set aside for unissued options. The calculator does the rest and provides a clear view of the company’s current ownership structure. Founders can add, delete, and amend data in real-time, add multiple investors, and start-up-specific investment agreements such as SAFEs (Simple Agreement for Future Equity).

Patrick Rogers, CEO and Co-Founder of Clara, says, “Cap tables might sound complicated and time-consuming, but they don’t have to be. Our free calculator is a powerful tool designed to help startup founders easily track the ownership structure of their companies.”

    Clara’s cap table management tool

As well as offering the free cap table calculator, Clara provides a more sophisticated cap table management tool that includes multiple charts, analysis, stakeholder sharing, and an Excel export prompt. Clara is a member of the Open Cap Table Coalition and is launching the new version of its cap table later this quarter. This new version is built on the open cap table format (.ocf), which makes the cap table fully transferable with other providers using this format.

    Demo the Cap Table Calculator

Startup founders can demo Clara’s Cap Table calculator here. With the calculator’s instant results, startup founders can get instant feedback on how future fundraising scenarios will affect their ownership stakes.

March’s startup funding across the MENA region fell by 67% compared to the previous month, though Q1 2023 is up.

Across 2022, African startups doubled their debt financing compared to 2021.
