Abu Dhabi’s food and agriculture sector will witness a significant advancement with the launch of the new Silal (site) facility in Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (KEZAD). This cutting-edge facility is poised to transform food distribution, enhance trade opportunities, and support the UAE’s food security agenda.

    State-of-the-Art Infrastructure

Silal’s new KEZAD facility spans 41,000 square meters, equipped with advanced warehouses and 36,800 storage platforms. The facility boasts state-of-the-art cold rooms and storage solutions designed to maintain optimal food preservation standards. This robust infrastructure includes 36 loading points and sea berths, ensuring efficient handling and distribution of food products.

    Enhancing Trade and Logistics

With a 38-dock loading area, the Silal KEZAD facility is set to significantly enhance Abu Dhabi’s food distribution capabilities. The facility’s strategic location and advanced logistical technologies optimize transportation logistics, making it a central hub for food distribution. By providing efficient warehousing and transport logistics solutions, it will facilitate better trade opportunities for retailers, suppliers, and other stakeholders across the globe.

    Supporting Food Security and Sustainability

The new facility aligns with Abu Dhabi’s strategy to become a global supply chain hub. Its technological capabilities, including re-export and repackaging facilities, enable it to respond swiftly to supply chain disruptions. This ensures a continuous supply of essential food products, supporting the UAE’s food security agenda. Additionally, the facility is set to foster sustainable partnerships with local distributors, retailers, and global manufacturers.

Suresh Vaidhyanathan, Abu Dhabi Food Hub’s CEO said, “We are excited to support the global food players in accessing the regional consumer markets with integrated supply chain solutions and incorporating the most recent technologies and further be a key enabler in food trade diversification and the UAE’s food security agenda.”

    Continuous Innovation and Expansion

Silal’s commitment to innovation and expansion is evident in its recent developments, including the opening of a high-tech packhouse in Al Ain. This 14,000-square-meter facility can process up to 216 tons of fresh produce daily, incorporating advanced post-harvest technologies to enhance efficiency. The packhouse aims to handle 65% of Silal’s future crops, reinforcing its commitment to supporting local agriculture and sustainability.
