Air Cargo Africa 2025 to showcase Africa’s growing air cargo sector and investment potential.

Africa’s air cargo industry is undergoing rapid expansion, driven by trade liberalization under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). This historic agreement is projected to boost intra-African trade by 25%, increasing transport demand by over 50%. In 2024 alone, Africa saw a 6% year-on-year rise in air cargo traffic, with special cargo—such as fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, and high-value goods—comprising 80% of exports.

Air Cargo Africa (site) started today in Nairobi and will run until February 21, bringing together key industry stakeholders to discuss the future of trade in Africa.

Kenya Airways Cargo Director Dick Murianki highlighted AfCFTA’s impact, connecting 1.3 billion people across 55 countries with a combined GDP of $3.4 trillion.

“In 2024, Africa’s air cargo traffic saw a 6% year-on-year growth, with special cargo—fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, and high-value goods—accounting for 80% of exports,” Murianki said.

Kenya plays a crucial role in this transformation, with Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) handling over 112,000 tons of cargo in Q1 2024. “Hosting Air Cargo Africa 2025 in Nairobi underscores the city’s importance as a logistics hub and provides an unparalleled platform to address Africa’s airfreight needs,” said Murianki.

What to Expect at Air Cargo Africa 2025

Co-hosted by the Kenya Airports Authority, Air Cargo Africa 2025 will bring together more than 2,000 industry professionals and 60 exhibitors at Nairobi’s Sarit Expo Centre. The summit will serve as a strategic platform for discussions on:

    • The impact of AfCFTA on Africa’s logistics landscape
    • Innovations in air cargo handling and digital supply chain management
    • Strategies to boost operational efficiency and regulatory compliance
    • Sustainable air freight solutions and infrastructure development

With Africa’s logistics sector becoming increasingly competitive, Air Cargo Africa 2025 aims to shape policies and investments that will define the industry’s future.

Major Airlines and Stakeholders in Attendance

Air Cargo Africa 2025 will attract leading global and regional players in the aviation and logistics sectors. Confirmed participants include:

    • Airlines: Kenya Airways Cargo, Astral Aviation, Ethiopian Airlines, South African Airways, Emirates SkyCargo, Lufthansa Cargo, Qatar Airways Cargo, Etihad Cargo, and Turkish Airlines Cargo.
    • Regulatory Bodies: Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Shippers Council of Eastern Africa (SCEA), and trade ministries from across the region.
    • Logistics Firms and Investors: Freight forwarders, logistics providers, and investment firms keen on capitalizing on Africa’s expanding air cargo market.

This diverse representation makes the event a must-attend for stakeholders looking to explore business opportunities and strengthen trade networks.

Nairobi: The Ideal Hub for Air Cargo Africa 2025

Nairobi’s selection as the host city underscores its status as a key logistics gateway for Africa. The city’s strategic location, coupled with its robust aviation infrastructure, makes it an ideal venue for a summit of this scale. The event is expected to generate significant business deals, policy discussions, and partnerships aimed at enhancing Africa’s air cargo capabilities.

As the continent’s economies grow and demand for efficient logistics increases, Air Cargo Africa 2025 will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of air freight in Africa. Industry leaders, policymakers, and investors attending the summit will gain valuable insights into emerging trends and opportunities in the sector.

With its focus on trade, investment, and innovation, Air Cargo Africa is set to be a game-changer for Africa’s logistics industry.
