Air Cargo Africa 2025 to showcase Africa’s growing air cargo sector and investment potential.
Africa’s air cargo industry is undergoing rapid expansion, driven by trade liberalization under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). This historic agreement is projected to boost intra-African trade by 25%, increasing transport demand by over 50%. In 2024 alone, Africa saw a 6% year-on-year rise in air cargo traffic, with special cargo—such as fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, and high-value goods—comprising 80% of exports.
Air Cargo Africa (site) started today in Nairobi and will run until February 21, bringing together key industry stakeholders to discuss the future of trade in Africa.
Kenya Airways Cargo Director Dick Murianki highlighted AfCFTA’s impact, connecting 1.3 billion people across 55 countries with a combined GDP of $3.4 trillion.
“In 2024, Africa’s air cargo traffic saw a 6% year-on-year growth, with special cargo—fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, and high-value goods—accounting for 80% of exports,” Murianki said.
Kenya plays a crucial role in this transformation, with Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) handling over 112,000 tons of cargo in Q1 2024. “Hosting Air Cargo Africa 2025 in Nairobi underscores the city’s importance as a logistics hub and provides an unparalleled platform to address Africa’s airfreight needs,” said Murianki.
