A new debit card from Swypex, a Cairo‑based fintech, empowers businesses with real‑time spend management and approval workflows.

Cairo‑based fintech startup Swypex (site) has introduced a pioneering approval‑based spend‑control card, aimed squarely at empowering Egyptian SMEs with more effective financial oversight. The move is a key milestone in Egypt’s fintech evolution, strengthening the country’s SME finance ecosystem. Swypex was founded by Ahmad Mokhtar, Tarek Mokhtar and Sasan Hezarkhani, and is licensed by the Central Bank of Egypt.

    Real‑Time Control and Visibility

Swypex’s debit card is uniquely designed for on‑the‑spot approval and allocation of funds. Using the card, businesses can:

    • Set customized spending thresholds.
    • Require managerial approval before transactions.
    • Monitor live expenditures, minimizing unauthorized spend.

This degree of control aligns closely with global best practices in corporate spend management, but represents a new offering in Egypt.

“Egyptian businesses want control without friction, and this card gives them exactly that,” said Ahmad Mokhtar, co-founder and CEO of Swypex. “Approval-based limit cards bring a new standard of precision and agility to business finance. It’s the bridge between old-world cash management and seamless, secure corporate spending. This card empowers companies to shift from chasing expenses to controlling them with clarity, speed, and confidence.”

    Benefits for African SMEs

    1. Stronger Budget Discipline
By requiring approvals, the card encourages accountability among staff and limits impulsive expenses.
    2. Reduced Fraud and Misuse
Managers gain oversight over each transaction, helping to detect and prevent irregular spending.
    3. Operational Efficiency
Automating approvals streamlines workflows, reducing manual reconciliation and audit time.

These benefits resonate deeply with SMEs across Africa, which often deal with razor‑thin margins and constrained resources.

    Swypex’s Strategic Positioning

Swypex seeks to address critical gaps in SME financial services. The launch of this card positions it as a fintech innovator, paralleling global leaders in business expense control. With Egypt’s vibrant SME ecosystem—spanning trade, manufacturing, and services—Swypex is well‑placed to drive digital transformation across the region.

    Looking Ahead: Regional Expansion

While this debit-card is currently exclusive to Egyptian businesses, speculation is growing around Swypex’s wider ambitions. Gulf‑Africa trade corridors—such as those linking Egypt with the UAE and Saudi Arabia—could present strategic opportunities. By scaling into regional markets, Swypex could offer cross-border SMEs seamless spend management across currencies and jurisdictions.

    A Robust Solution

Swypex’s approval‑based debit card marks a significant innovation in SME financial tools within Egypt. By enhancing oversight, preventing overspend, and streamlining approvals, this fintech solution sets a standard for robust business finance in Africa. The potential for regional rollout further underscores its strategic importance to investors and SME stakeholders.
