The inaugural Gitex Africa event gathers industry players in Marrakech to explore the digital economy and foster inclusive growth through technology and innovation.
Gitex Africa, the largest technology exhibition on the continent, is underway in Marrakech, bringing together 900 companies and 250 lecturers from 95 countries. This premier gathering aims to unlock the potential of the digital economy in Africa, accelerate infrastructure development, and foster an environment conducive to innovation and growth. With participation from renowned tech giants, startups, and SMEs, Gitex Africa serves as a gateway for international players to tap into Africa’s burgeoning digital ecosystem.
Gitex Africa – Driving digital opportunities and economic growth
The CEO of the Digital Development Agency, Mohammed Drissi Melyani, highlighted the objective of Gitex Africa, saying, “”One of the objectives of this meeting is to take full advantage of digital opportunities and develop a digital economy”, the CEO of the Digital Development Agency said. “We need to invest in skills development to accelerate innovation and growth in Africa. Moreover, more than 250 investors are expected to discuss ways of fully exploiting the potential of this sector”.
Empowering digital infrastructure and value creation
Huawei, one of the technology giants participating in Gitex Africa, is spearheading discussions around the theme of “Unleashing digital technology for a new Africa.” Their focus revolves around three pillars: digital infrastructure, new values through the creation of government services on the Internet, and a new business model to support skills and startups. By prioritizing robust digital infrastructure, value creation, and an enabling business environment, Africa can unleash its full potential and create sustainable growth opportunities across sectors, according to the vice president of the Cloud & AI Africa, Huawei, Mounir Soussi.
Opportunities for tech startups and SMEs
Gitex Africa not only attracts global tech giants but also provides a platform for local startups and innovative SMEs to showcase their solutions and tap into the growing digital economy. ACCEL Technologies, based in Senegal, sees Gitex Africa as a valuable opportunity to connect with potential customers, forge strategic partnerships, and expand their footprint beyond national borders. With an emphasis on collaboration and networking, the event offers a unique chance for startups and SMEs to gain exposure, foster business relationships, and accelerate their growth trajectory.
As the event establishes itself as the continent’s premier technology exhibition, it sets the stage for an annual gathering akin to its predecessor, Gitex in Dubai. By fostering knowledge exchange, collaboration, and business opportunities, this landmark event propels Africa into the forefront of the global digital landscape. With its immense potential for inclusive growth and transformation, Africa’s digital economy is poised to thrive, driven by the convergence of tech giants, startups, and SMEs at Gitex Africa.
